Malaysian Workplace Obesity and Disease Reduction with Knowledge Improvement (MyWORK) Program

Introduction

The workplace is an opportunity setting for health promotion and for reaching a large part of the working population, including those individuals that are often difficult to reach, such as young men with lower social socioeconomic status. Nutrition interventions that involve counseling, education and on-site group activities have generally shown significant changes in employee sedentary and eating behavior, improving physical and mental health and a positive return on investment by reducing health care costs as well as overall absenteeism. Nutrition training programs have been employed in the workplace using an appropriate training model and based on health-related priorities in various industries. The use of a health program in the workplace has been effective in increasing the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition, it improves some parameters of cardio metabolic risk factors.

Outcome

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

- Implement a constructive health behavior change.
- Identify & improve personal health behaviors that contribute, specifically, to disease risk.
- Develop an action plan for a healthy behavior change that will improve risk factors for weight-related health conditions.
