Introduction

Business English Essentials – Communicate Clearly and Effectively is a 2-day training suitable for Malaysians who are in the workforce. It is a competency-based training which ensures that employees acquire the specific skills needed to perform their jobs effectively.

Trainees will learn English using the Structural Approach, which is based on the study of Traditional Grammar. As a result, trainees can use the practical and relevant knowledge at their workplaces effectively.

Outcome

In this 2-day training, trainees are given the fundamentals of spoken and written English used at the workplace. With the knowledge gained, trainees are equipped to learn English independently. When trainees understand the rules of grammar, they speak and write English confidently.

1 FOCUS AREA 1 – GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY AND PUNCTUATION

The study of grammar is vital for non-native speakers who need to speak and write English clearly and correctly. When the trainees know how to increase their stock of words (vocabulary), they communicate effectively.

The study of punctuation helps the trainees to aim for clearness in their written English. As speaking and writing are the Transmission Skills, non-native speakers, who attend this training, can learn how to transmit their thoughts, ideas and feeling to others confidently.

2 FOCUS AREA 2 – BUSINESS VOCABULARY

In this focus area, trainees understand the vocabulary that is used at their workplaces.

In that way, trainees prepare business letters, memorandums, reports, etc., using the right vocabulary. Trainees will attempt various exercises on the use of business vocabulary.

3 FOCUS AREA 3 – TELEPHONE MANNERS

As members of an organization, trainees must exhibit a professional image when they use the telephone to communicate with their clients.

Special emphasis is put on words and phrases that must be used correctly by employees who communicate on the phone.

4 FOCUS AREA 4 – SPOKEN ENGLISH

Spoken English is widely used in the world of business today.

As such, trainees will have the opportunity to practise conversations and dialogues before they are asked to do role-plays on certain speaking tasks during the training.
